Typical Conformation of a Paso HorseI'm going to start this thread with some pieces and parts of my mare. She is a registered Paso Fino, but she has some known trocha in her pedigree, so I want to include that in the discussion. There are some differences that are marked in the different modalities, or I would not mention it. I am starting with a couple of head shots, so anyone with any comments, please feel free to make them. Is she "typical"? If so, how so, etc., etc., etc.
In one photo, her eyes look very light...she is a dun (grulla). I realize that in certain circles, this color of eye (called goat eyes), is less than desirable. These things are some of the things that deserve discussion as well, because it exists in our breed, and has been a factor in the development of the breed.

For conformation a good side shot is best.
This is athena. Just started with her training but seams to have the ability to work at low forward speeds. What her foot fall speed will do is yet to be seen but should know this summer. Possible peformance or might even go fino.
This is nemi. She has the same father as athena and there mothers share comanchero as a father also. So the two are 3/4 sisters. Nemi has nice action but hasent shown me what i feel is her full foot fall speed yet. But she will be a pleasure mare only.
I am not the best at conformation. But I do like how these girls are built.

If you are serious Kerry, then is it possible to get some flat profiles? One of each side of her head that shows the complete muzzle and jaw line including throat latch and then one with her facing ahead with the forelock pulled back to see the complete outline of her ear attachment. Also any whorls on her head, poll or jaw are worth mentioning.
I know gals love this "hair" gene but it gets in the way.
I'll see if I can follow up with some of my horses' heads too in the near weeks.
There's a good reference about how to take confo pic of horses. I'll see if I can find the .pdf file and get it posted here.

Oh, I'm serious. I'll see what I have, and what I can get. It's hard to get straight on shots of her...she's all about being nosy with the camera. I've also got some other pieces/parts shots of her, that I can post.
Adam...thanks for the shots! All are helpful, and it's difficult to discuss these things about our horses, because we have to discuss imperfections sometimes. We always must remember that it's the total package that we have to look at, and when we have to consider gait, brio, and the expression of THOSE two traits as well, sometimes an imperfect horse can impact a breeding in a positive way, when they contribute those types of characteristics.

What a fantastic thread! I will also post some pictures of my stallion! I personally think threads like this are very important for the understanding of our breed!
Thank you Kerry!

This is the girls father. He is a piloto son and a very natural fino stallion. He didnt need to be asked to do fino. He is half pr and half col. This is a good confo pic of him i think and good for people to look at. He was very smooth also and on the trail would bring joy to a seasoned paso rider. He was around 16 in this pic.
