IF I am not mistaken this stallion is not bitted so to me I am impressed with his natural ability. Nice horse!

Bitted or not bitted does not determine whether a horse has natural ability or not.

I apologize for my bluntness but this must be eradicated from many people's minds as to how to determine ability.  It is a myth generated by many who do not know how to bit a horse and so choose to say their horses are "more natural" inferring "better gaited" than those who are "trained" or bitted.

Putting a piece of metal in one of the most sensitive anatomical parts of the body without harm is an indication of HORSEMANSHIP--the ability of the rider to communicate with the horse.  It is also an indication of finishing of the horse.  The subtleties of communication through a bit can be mimicked with a bosal but not accurately duplicated.   This is why ALL disciplines require a bit.  Not to test the horse, but to test the rider's ability to communicate to the horse in the gentlest, kindest ways.

A horse too long on the bosal with the wrong hands can be as dull, slow, and sluggish as any.  The nose becomes hard, calloused and the horse disrespects the cues.  Self-carriage is lost with the lack of correct collection.  As a matter of fact, I see few examples of correct carriage in the bosal by most who claim their horses "gait naturally".  The paso modality is judged by ALL aspects not only on ONE where the horse sounds isochronic or the rider's butt does not hit hard in the saddle.

In other words, a horse in the bosal must be as trained as the bitted horse to CORRECTLY perform the paso modalities.

As one person explained to me, riding a horse bitted with one hand demonstrates the ultimate achievement of the rider.
