IPHF PRESS RELEASEIPHF SALUTES THE REPUBLIC OF COLOMBIA
IPHF congratulates the people of Colombia as they celebrate the 199th anniversary of their independence, and salutes the Paso horse owners, breeders, trainers and exhibitors in Colombia for their indelible contributions to the Paso breed for which the entire Paso world owes Colombia an eternal debt of gratitude.
At a ceremony commemorating Colombia’s Independence Day held at the Colombian Consulate in Coral Gables, Florida, Ambassador Luis Ignacio Guzman, Consul General of Colombia in Florida, thanked the United States for supporting the security and stability of its loyal friend and ally under the leadership of President Alvaro Uribe as Colombia now enters its 200th year as an independent republic. Attending the ceremonial event were numerous worldwide diplomats, government officials and dignitaries, including Air Force General Douglas Fraser, Commander of the U.S. Southern Command. Representing IPHF of South Florida at the event was IPHF founding member Tony Rodriguez.
Since declaring its independence from Spain on July 20, 1810, Colombia and the United States have shared a history and tradition of constitutional government and a mutual commitment to promoting democratic institutions and fundamental human and social rights in all countries of the western hemisphere.
Colombia and the United States are also united by a mutual love for the Paso horse. Both Colombia President Uribe and Consul General Guzman are themselves Paso horse enthusiasts, as well as full supporters of IPHF. Pereira, Colombia will be the host of the 2009 CONFEPASO Mundial this coming November. Before then, IPHF of South Florida is presenting the U.S. national trials for this year’s World Cup at a Pre-Mundial Show to be held September 4-6, 2009, at Tropical Park in Miami, Florida. This show will feature the finest horses from across the United States and the Caribbean.
