Sure! I received a call!! and this is the story! Gitano was purchased by a couple from Naples, Florida 8 years ago, for their 45 wedding anniversary present from husband.
Well, this couple cared and loved this horse with all their heart, since they could never conceive a child, and had no family in this country, this was their BOY.
In July of last year, her husband came in the house from feeding Gitano, sat on the couch.. and never woke up…
The lady was devastated to say the least ( like everyone will be)…… she froze her husband awaiting to sell the house and the horse and other belongings, so she can returned to her native country with her frozen husband to be buried in their native country.
In the mean time! although Gitano was a gift to her, the lady did not had a clue, not even to what to feed, and to add, the emotional unbalance….. Gitano was non-intentionally neglected..(in her back yard).
When I called the lady, you can only imaging, for the first hour, I could not understand a word she was saying, she was devastated, the horse she and her husband loved so much had to be given away ($1,500.00)..
First, the loss of her husband, and now her baby… ayyayyayyay. I offered to pay for the transportation to South America for Gitano, but she did not think that was the best thing to do, since she had no clue what and how to take care of a horse, and to add, she is very old and also not in good health.
So, I told her, if this will make you feel better, I will keep Gitano in my backyard (Miami), and I will promise to give plenty of attention. I will stay in touch, and occasionally mail you some photos of him. SHE FELT BETTER!....... so, that was a good thing! jejeje
Gitano arrived!, after a 2 hour trip in August (summer 100f temp) at my place,! very under weight ( with a bag of Alfalfa cubes, his diet) and not looking good, that poor horse was very weak, and his eyes where not shinning, so, immediate I knew I was in for a big one, and my feelings weren’t wrong.
The very next morning! every one showed up, Vet, Dentist, and Blacksmith……
1.Vet treaty him with all the shots – split of course…. deworming…. and a blood test…
2.Dentist, did his work, this poor guy wasn’t done in years, according to the dentist…
3.Blacksmith… did what he could…..
4.OH!!! the vet also said to keep a eye on that poor horse….
Well, later that afternoon I called the vet again!!! there was something there about Gitano that was not right, he only pup twice and I needed for him to be checked!
BINGO! his lower intestine was twisted! and this poor horse was in no condition to trailer again 2:45 trip from here…to the Plam Beach Clinic.
So, we decided to treat him from here!(my home), had the team of 4 vets treating the horse and monitor him 24/7 for 7 days!!!!
Imaging this! This poor horse was already under weight….badly and while being treaty he could not eat at all…. NO HAY, NO GRAIN…. just water and what ever fresh grass he could find on a small paddock……
Well! finally after many arms up his rectum (3 times a day x 7 days= 21 times…….ayyyayyayayyayayayayaya) he turned around, his lower intestine was no longer twisted and no more blockage……… AMEN!!!!!
Then for a month! his feed had to be soaked! and his hay aswell….. he needed all the water he could get! and a great happy ending!

Wow! He's beautiful! What a sad story, but I am so glad you got to him in time. He would not have lived, and probably suffered tremendously if he had not arrived at your place when he did.
You are Gitano's angel, and I am sure his previous owner must feel good about how you took care of him. You did not just save the horse, but you gave the lady piece of mind as well !
I am proud to call you my friend.
