Future PFHA President in Puerto Rico

Mr. Ed Smith will be meeting in Puerto Rico on Friday Dec. 5th, 2008 at 8pm

EVERYONE IS INVITED!

Location:  Coliseo Pachin Vincen,  in Ponce

The entire meeting will be transmitted  LIVE  via GalopandoTv.com

Get your question (s) ready!   If you will like to share them with us.

If you can not to attend, we will provide Tony Rodriguez (meeting moderator) all the questions!

I think is important to point out all the PPR horses the PFHA has presently registered, and also to open all communications with PPR Federations to better reach a true representation of the breed in the USA.

Maybe the PPR should have a separate class (s) in all PFHA shows!  or at least at the Nationals?

This is the time!  and someone is willing to listen!
Ferrum

A really hope they get a class of their own. The Puerto Rican Paso Fino can't survive if included with all other pasos, It is a matter of numbers. Besides, the registry/ies, really need to clean up and show the true heritage of the horses, quoting those that came before, like Plebeyo from PR and Plebeyo from Colombia. Otherwise it is impossible to be accurate and study the bloodlines.

I think this is a good oportunity, not to let it pass by and had our $ .2 on the subject.  It's a chance to expres our concerns and get the recognition PPR deserve. I all ready write down the date in may agenda and expect with Gods will to be there and hear what Mr. Smith has to say.  I encorage anyone that have chance, to be there!
caliber

I agree Pro. I think is very important.  The PPR breed needs its place and recognition in the PFHA (IMO).

The PFHA does a great job, just needs some guidance, reference but most importanly "SUPPORT" in how to lead the PPR breed in this country.

I personally think that will be to all advantages, if the PFHA will start with 2 National Classes solely dedicated to the PPR breed.
BigJ

I agree.  It is time to show support for the PPR horses in PFHA and let our future PFHA president know that Puerto Rico cares.

Please plan to attend whether you are a member of PFHA or not.  The Puerto Rican Paso Fino horse is part of the PFHA history.  The PFHA model is based on the Puerto Rican Paso Fino horse, so let Ed Smith know about your concerns where PFHA is heading.

Don't forget us here in the USA!

Town Meeting Info ASAP!!

We need more info on the important meeting ASAP!!  Can this topic be moved to a more conspicuous place on the form?

Date is given Dec. 5th but we need a time!

If Tony is the moderator for mtg, how should we submit our questions and what is the process for selection of questions to be used?

What is Ed's objective for holding this meeting in Ponce?

If Galopandotv.com is filming this meeting, why is it not listed under their NEWS section for the general public to see??

There may be other questions out there, but if people don't know about the meeting (like I didn't know), then how can people participate??

Thx!

A.P.C.C.P.F.A.  “Los Abiertos” will be holding the International Championship 2008 show also in Ponce P.R. Dic. 6 & 7
My guess is that Mr. Ed Smith will take the chance to meet with the director’s board and have some points on the table regarding the PPR issue….
caliber

That is correct Pro!  the meeting will take place the conference room of the coliseum
The Professional

Well… one thing I’m worried about is how he’s going to address all these questions.   I mean, we have questions, members have questions, and there will be persons at the coliseum too; also wanted to have something to say about this issue.  How is he going to manage to have every point adjourn?
caliber

Pro!  Here is the link to the 2nd town-hall meeting in Ocala with Mr. Smith.

Was very organized and went very well!  I was present on both meetings, Miami and Ocala...

There will be a official translator present.........

Selection of Questions

From what I understand, everyone is invited to submit questions, but because of time restraints, the questions that have more relevance to Paso Fino enthusiasts in general will be the ones chosen for the townhall meeting.  Who's choosing the questions to be used is anyone's guess!

BigJ

As I understand it, whether the question is asked during the meeting or not, Ed Smith receives a written submittal of all questions.

Also, PFHA and Ed Smith might want to know the paso fino breed and registry model was borrowed from Puerto Rico not Colombia, which is one of a few reasons why Colombia is pushing to change to a new paradigm to include horses that demonstrate only the diagonal modalities.

Does Los Abiertos truly represent the feelings of Puerto Rico?  It is important that Ed Smith KNOW about the Puerto Rican Paso Fino and the role it has played establishing the paso finos in the USA through PFOBA/PFHA.

Or maybe we should ask some of our former PFOBA Puerto Rican officers and other former association officials that began the registry about PFHA's history???

Is Puerto Rico depending on the USA and Los Abiertos to represent the Puerto Rican Paso Fino horse?
caliber

I think is very important......  for the PFHA to fully understand the true heritage of its components (horses).

I really don't care what peoples choices are, but I do care about people knowing what their choice is!..  not what certain individuals like to dictate their opinion(s) to be.   There is not such thing as the American Paso Fino, Sorry.

As been very clear to me!  The PFHA was established to "PROMOTE and PROTECT" (look in the BY-Laws) The Paso Fino Breed.  Not to create a new breed.

Got a little confused  with your question.

The PFHA should depend at all times by the 2 breeds they represent in their registry, Puerto Rico and Colombia, and is up to both countries to fulfill with full representation of their breed at all times.
BigJ

What I mean is: Does Los Abiertos represent ALL of the paso finos on the island of Puerto Rico?  If the Puerto Rican Paso Fino breeders feel it does not then it is about time for them to engage in the global community of the paso breed.  I'm asking if Puerto Rico, as a country of origin, is content with OTHERS representing their legally proclaimed breed?

I also agree

My question is does Ed Smith know the history of PFHA and the role Puerto Rico played?  If not, then here is an opportunity to educate!

I agree that there is no such thing as an "American Paso Fino" and everyone involved in the breed should know its history and what is available to them.

Again, do Puerto Ricans even care or are they too busy to bother with the rest of the world and chose to pretend they are still isolated on a 100 mile X 30 mile island?  It is strange to me that Puerto Rico has been part of the USA for over 100 years and yet there are more Colombian horses in the USA than Puerto Rican.  I've heard the excuse about "size" and "resources" of Colombia as compared to Puerto Rico limiting horse numbers...well, just how big does the USA have to be before PR will decide it is good enough for the Puerto Rican Paso Fino breed?
carolg

Just how BIG!

Let's take this a step further and not limit the exposure and growth of the PPR breed to the continental U.S.  There is a market for the PPR breed and only through education and effective marketing/advertising, will we be able to tap it!!  Hold on to your hats!  The day is coming and it is sooner than later!  More to come....

I don't know how a model can be taken from one or another?
I mean sire and dam etc are all pretty much the same at least for all mammals.

Anyhow, I wish the PFHA would quote the Reg numbers from Colombia and Puerto Rico, or even DR and APF, etc. I purchased their stud book and recommend it to all. But they really should have quoted the original registries, listing the original numbers from the original registries instead of giving them these " Unkown" labels.

As for Trocha and Galope, why can't they register them? just not as Paso fino, but " Trocha, etc?

Good Point for PFHA registry

Hi JoAnn,

A very good point.  Why don't you submit it for the town hall meeting.  Just create your question/comment and email it to Tony Rodiguez at tonypasofino@aol.com.  Here is his phone, (305) 439-1277.  I just talked to him tonight and he was excited to have the participation of the PPR's at meeting and again stated that you didn't have to be present to submit a question.  So go for it!

That will be fantastic Carol!   Thanks you!
Ferrum

We have already presented a question to Tony so we will leave it at one. the other is more of a suggestion to the PFHA for pedigree research matters, I know they already have their hands full I hear with hundreds of Questions.

A category or class for the Puerto Rican Paso Fino would reflect the true versions and breeding goals of Paso Owners on the Island. Most have PPR then Open ( Colombian and American Imports), and then maybe some Trot & gallop or Trocha.

A big problem for the PPR is the color issue, many top animals can't compete for white on both nostrils and bottom lip, plus socks that go a tad up over a knee or hock joint. As is Dulce Sueño himself 1927-1945 would be not eligible to compete.  Other problems are the eyes, and the dislike of roman noses.

Well said!   goodjob
