OCALA -- A veteran of the Paso Fino industry from Hillsborough County has been named executive director of the Florida Horse Park.
The Florida Horse Park Authority's board of directors, with the approval of Charles Bronson, state agriculture commissioner, selected C.J. Marcello Jr. of Lithia as its executive director, according to a press release issued today by Margaret Rowell, the park's director of development. The board made its appointment on Tuesday, according to the release.
Marcello succeeds Jon Barber, who served in the post for the past year. Under Barber's leadership, the park received a $1 million state grant to develop a plan to add amenities and attract more world-class events. The park is a 500 acre public/private partnership on the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway.
"The board of directors has chosen Mr. Marcello to lead the organization in developing the vision," the park's statement read.
According to the release, Marcello has over thirty-six years of personal involvement in the equine industry working with Paso Finos and cutting horses. He has a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, served as the executive director of the Paso Fino Horse Association for more than 14 years, is an active member of the Paso Fino Horse Association, and is the vice president and past president of CONFEPASO, the international Paso Fino organization. He is also a member of the United States Equestrian Federation.
Connie Duff Wise, 2009 Florida Horse Park Board Chair, applauded the selection of Marcello, according to the press release.
"C.J. Marcello has the kind of leadership experience and skills we need to move this organization forward," Wise said. "The search committee was impressed with his exceptional qualifications and undeniable record of leadership. I am confident that he will do an excellent job leading the Park's development for many years."

Nothing personal...but I really hope if it moves, it moves a little further from Florida for a change. I realize that the majority of show horses are there, but sheesh....how about spreading the fun out a little?

WOW! the miracle of the PAPER! it holds all the shit you can write on!
I personally don't think CJ MARCELLO is anything of what that paper said!
36 years of experience might be! BUT NOT IN PASO! i was surprised to see WHO they asked for personal references! WELL! not really! Lets not forget the present PFHA office staff (90) was hired by CJ! jejejeje what a joke!
Ask Confepaso?
Ask PFHA members?
Ask Besilu Collection?
Ask Fedequinas?
Ask Los Abiertos?
And I am sure that article can be contradicted! and now we see how our tax payer money is being wasted!
Well! back to the subject!
The Florida Park is a gorgeous park! lost of land and connected to the greenways! could get better! Right now the park only counts with one open arena, and maybe 12 no in good shape wooden stalls! It has a bigger barn, but maybe 25 stalls! SO, for now!!!! i don't see us using the park in the near future!
That construction has been on the talks for a long time. With the way our economy is right now! I don't think OBAMAS relief money package will be placed on building the park!
I agree with Kerry! The National Show is a show for the entire country...... and a more centralize location should be found!

And here I thought it was the INTERNET that was the infinitely expandable bag...
My vote is still for the Virginia Horse Center. It's a lovely facility, both Mason-Dixon and VAPresidential use it. NICE, airy stalls, easy access from the highway etc.
